Kate Gibb

Kate Gibb is one of my all time favourite illustrators. She has done some amazing work for bands over the years, including Chemical Brothers, Simian, Bob Marley, Suede, My Computer and recently The Magic Numbers. She uses photography and screen-printing with other techniques to achieve her images.  These are some of her fashion illustrations.

Raf Simons Menswear Spring_Summer 2010

One of my favourites from all the menswear collections I have been looking at. Raf Simons never seems to disappoint. The whole collection was marked by the cinched waist, the use of massive belts tied often more than once creating quite a feminine feel to a very mannish collection. Is it a reflection of the time, a buckle up due to the current economic climate. It was a super mature and quite commercial collection that showcased the new Raf Simons man. He sort of changed his target client and made it all more high fashion and tailored. It is the beginning of a new era.

Louis Vuitton Menswear Spring_Summer 2010

It was cool, it was relaxed, amazing bags, and a surprisingly good use of one of my least favourite colours (yellow). It has an incredible summer vibe and sort of looks like the collection where the boys became men.

Givenchy Menswear Spring_Summer 2010

In Clothes, Fashion Designers on June 28, 2009 at 9:48 am

If I was a boy this is probably how I would be dressing myself. Had some mixed feelings about this collection, really like the silhouettes in these six images but was not very convinced on some of the more casual garments that strongly reflected the inspiration of the designer. The whole medieval vibe with the accompanying head gear was probably brilliant to showcase the idea but not as good as the more polished and constructed looks. Ricardo Tisci “Latino Boy Goes to Morocco” collection with gladiator inspired footwear and overlay of leggings and shorts is certainly different, i guess i am just the sort of person that always prefers tailored pieces instead of sporty ones.

Jil Sander Spring_Summer 2010 Menswear

Super clean, great neutral palette, very interesting collar detail. I think this could easily be adapted into a womenswear collection.

Margaret Durow is a 19 year old photographer from Wisconsin. These images are at the same time dreamy, cinematographic, mysterious. They look old but feel contemporary. You can see more work on her website or on her flickr page.

Finsk Shoes Autumn_Winter 2010

In Clothes, Fashion Designers, Shoes on June 27, 2009 at 9:27 pm

Great new shoes by Finsk, personally along with some of the pairs launched for the Spring_Summer collection these are the best designs they have ever made. The aesthetic follows some of the guidelines of their early work, but the materials, the colour coordination, the textures and visual effect they make have definitely had a massive improvement. I absolutely love the first shoe and i am not a fan of a wedge or a platform. When a design is able to change my mind I have to consider it is a great design.

victionary 1

Viction:ary has been publishing some great design and fashion books, here are examples of two of them that i consider to be a must-have in every library. As the names state the first is about packaging and the second one about materials and both showcase projects in a multitude of areas.
